NCCVFA to host Second Annual 5K Fire Run/Walk

The New Castle County Volunteer Firefighters' Association will host its second annual 5K fire run/walk to benefit the NCC Firefighters' Relief Fund.

The sanctioned race will be held on March 28, 2010 at noon as a fast and flat out-and-back through the New Castle Corporate Commons and State Fire School grounds. Registration starts at 11 am outside of the Gilliam Building (77 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720).

All participants will receive a t-shirt, post-race refreshments and a free smoke detector. Registration is $18 pre registration by March 23rd and $22 after and morning of event.

Citizen Corps partners with the Office of Child Care Licensing

The Delaware Citizen Corps and NCC Citizen Corps has partnered with the Office of Child Care Licensing to offer FREE trainings. The program is called Emergency Planning for Family Child Care and Large Family Child Care Homes. H1N1 shots available for free

The H1N1 vaccine has become available to all Delawareans above the age of six months at many local clinics and pharmacies for free after the Department of Public Health released a significant number of shots.

• NCC Citizen Corps update
o December CERT class December 10 and 11 was very successful. Thirty-two newly trained CERT members. We will be offering a “train-the-trainer” class for anyone interested in teaching CERT on January 22, 2010 at the Public Safety Building (3601 N. Dupont Hwy., New Castle, DE 19720) from 9:30 am to 2 pm.
o Red Cross Damage Assessment Team is forming up quickly. We will be offering the instructor-led training class on January 30, 2010 at the Public Safety Building (3601 N. • Discussion about the Delaware Medical Reserve Corps and the State Emergency Registry of Volunteers (SERVDE) by Nicole Desmarais
o The Department of Public Health has a system to manage and identify volunteers through the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The system has been useful, but is currently limited to the MRC. Citizen Corps has been searching for a volunteer management system that would serve our purposes well, this system could do just that, but no agreement exists to share the technology.

• Open group discussion

Association of Contingency Planners joins Citizen Corps

We are thrilled to welcome the Association of Contingency Planners - The First State (Delaware) Chapter, which became the newest member of the New Castle County Citizen Corps Council in December.

According to its web site - http://firststate.acp-international.com/ - "The Association of Contingency Planners - The First State (Delaware) Chapter is a non-profit trade association dedicated to fostering continued professional growth and development in effective Contingency & Business Resumption Planning....ACP provides members an excellent information exchange experience and opportunities to set response and recovery trends while strengthening relationships through public and private partnerships.The First State ACP chapter members include business continuity, disaster recovery, audit/compliance, and emergency planners from the private and public sectors, including financial institutions, utility companies, schools/universities, property management firms, non-profit groups, local government agencies, third-party providers, and various other organizations."
